roundtable discussion on the global fight against corruption
Last week we hosted a roundtable discussion on the global fight against corruption. Students from Yerevan State University, the American University of Armenia, the International Center for Agribusiness Research and Education and the Public Administration Academy participated in the event. Senior Law Enforcement Advisor Audie Holloway of the U.S. Embassy welcomed students and guests and joined a series of presentations and discussions led by three Armenian alumni of U.S.-sponsored exchange programs in the United States. Artak Manukyan, consultant to the Anti-Corruption Coalition, spoke about open data analysis tools in #Armenia. “Hetq” LLC director Kristine Barseghyan spoke about being an investigative journalist. Gegham Vardanyan shared his perspective on media literacy, citing real-life examples of media manipulation and fake news. Students came away with a better sense of what misinformation looks like and what journalists do in uncovering corruption worldwide.

One Indicator, Two Prime Ministers, Three Different Numbers
At a joint press conference on October 24, Russia’s and Armenia’s prime ministers gave different statisticson the two countries’ trade turnover.
According to Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, trade between the two countries in the first eight months of 2017 increased by 23.5%. According to Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, that figure is 30%.
